Imphal Newspaper Attacked (Video)

Four newspaper staff were working when a bullet hit the glass door at their office. Trouble has been brewing in the city of Imphal over the killing of a young local. People in the area are blaming security forces for the killing, who have since imposed a curfew in the region.

The attack on the newspaper office took place during curfew hours... a time when only law enforcement are allowed to be out and about.

[Imo Singh, Journalist]:
"(We) journalists suspect the police commandos... We are fully supporting peace and national integration. Why the security forces suspect the journalists?"

The police are promising an in-depth investigation into the incident.

[L. Kailun, Senior Police Official, Imphal]:
"Whatever we are got as of now, at this hour, and we feel that it could be of any type, but it does not look like fire arms or something, but we are not ruling out anything. We will investigate, we will properly see that how it happened."

Journalists are calling on Manipur’s chief minister to ensure the safety of media staff and organizations.
